The Vice President, Business Strategy & Analytics will be a cross-functional leader within the organization, shaping how data, insights, and technology inform decisions across the Detroit Pistons and 313 Presents. This highly strategic and analytical role uses fan-, market- and industry-focused research and data to drive fan connectivity, market expansion, innovation and revenue growth.

This executive will lead a dynamic and analytical team that partners across departments to impact how insights translate into action across Marketing, Revenue, Strategy, Fan Experience, and beyond. With a strategic lens, they will influence how the organization understands its fans, drives business value, and invests in scalable, future-forward solutions.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership:

  • Act as a strategic advisor to the C-Suite and functional leaders, integrating data-driven insights into decisions across revenue, marketing, operations, and fan engagement & experience.
  • Align analytical insights with organizational goals by working closely with Senior Leadership, Revenue, Marketing, Strategy, HR, Finance and Operations teams.

Revenue Optimization & Market Leadership

  • Support development and implementation of pricing and go-to-market strategies for ticketing, premium suites, and corporate partnerships.
  • Analyze market trends and fan data to optimize revenue opportunities and forecast sales, collaborating with Sales and Marketing teams to refine pricing models and target audiences.

Fan & Market Insights

  • Expand the understanding of fan behavior, values, and sentiment across digital and in-venue channels.
  • Lead research initiatives that go beyond traditional reporting – uncovering strategic insights on new audiences, content consumption, regional behaviors, and evolving entertainment preferences.
  • Translate insights into action plans for growth markets, fan experience, community engagement, and strategic opportunities.

Data Infrastructure & Analytics Management

  • Oversee the development of integrated data systems and ensure accurate, real-time reporting tools are in place to support business decisions.
  • Manage BI platforms, integrating advanced analytics and AI tools to provide deeper insights into fan behavior and operational performance.

Data Governance & Compliance

  • Establish data governance protocols, ensuring data accuracy, privacy, and compliance with legal regulations.
  • Maintain high standards for data quality, working closely with Legal and IT teams to ensure privacy and security requirements are met.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Business Strategy & Analytics team, fostering a culture of curiosity, accountability, and innovation.
  • Invest in team growth through professional development, mentorship, and exposure to emerging tools and techniques.
  • Promote cross-training and collaboration within the team to build a flexible, future-ready BI function.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify new technologies and trends to drive business growth, leveraging AI, machine learning, and automation to enhance fan engagement and operational efficiency.
  • Continuously refine processes and strategies based on data insights, aiming to improve both the fan experience and organizational performance.

Strategy, Insights, & Reporting

  • Provide senior leadership with strategic, data-driven insights that inform key business decisions related to revenue, fan engagement, and market positioning.
  • Present complex data findings in clear, actionable formats, ensuring alignment between BI initiatives and organizational objectives.
  • Ensure insights are contextualized and actionable, using storytelling to bridge data with strategy.

Risk Management & Data Security

  • Manage risks related to data security and privacy, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and safeguarding sensitive fan data.
  • Work with IT teams to ensure data is secure, accurate, and aligned with business goals, minimizing operational risks.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in business intelligence, analytics, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5+ years of management experience, with a proven track record of leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Experience with SaaS solutions and evaluating their fit into overall corporate strategy.
  • Strong understanding of data management, reporting, and analytical tools and best practices in the sports or entertainment spaces.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Positive and proactive attitude, with a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Degree in Business Administration, Data Science, or a related field is preferred.
