Job Description

Salary: $80,000 - 120,000 per year Requirements:

  • I am looking for candidates who meet the following qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent experience (minimum of 3 years) is required.
  • Intermediate technical knowledge of NAS, DAS, SAN, and Object Storage.
  • Technical experience with backup solutions and architecture, including administration, configuration, and troubleshooting of EMC Networker Applications and Data Domain/Quantum hardware.
  • Familiarity with VMware or Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization technologies.
  • Experience maintaining a tiered storage and backup environment.
  • Proficiency in Cloud Storage Technologies.
  • Experience in Virtual Tape Library Management.
  • Understanding of Disaster Recovery policies and procedures.
  • Candidates should have hardware/software experience with one or more of the following models: EMC Data Domain, EMC Isilon, Quantum Tape Libraries, NDMP Backup, Virtual Tape Libraries, and HP Storage product lines.
  • Knowledge of local and wide area networking on multiple platforms such as Windows, Unix, Linux, VMware, and Microsoft Hyper-V; understanding network protocols, routing, and operating systems; familiarity with IP networking, Active Directory/LDAP, internet and intranet technologies; as well as email, groupware, office automation, and collaboration technologies.
Responsibilities:
  • In this role, you will be tasked with the following duties:
  • Strategy & Planning: You will coordinate the future state of the backup environment for our information management. Collaborate with peers and leaders to establish system standards and assist in designing backup solutions that align with the organization’s vision and strategy. You will plan, prioritize, and manage projects, service requests, and routine assignments.
  • System Engineering: You will assist in analyzing backup configurations for critical corporate resources, evaluate changes and additions for proposed system acquisitions, and provide vital input for the decision-making process concerning integration, operations, cost, and maintenance. You will develop plans and recommendations to enhance the performance and efficiency of the backup environment while addressing all related aspects.
  • System Integration: You will integrate backup components and subsystems into the existing technical environment, assess interoperability, operational recoverability, and impacts on other systems. You will install, configure, and verify the operation of storage network components, maintaining or improving integration relative to the overall environment.
  • System Management: You will implement and oversee a proactive process to collect and report data and statistics on the storage environment, ensuring that systems operate efficiently and meet organizational needs. You will keep systems updated, conduct research and testing for updates, coordinate vendor support, and monitor performance, providing training as required.
  • Training & Certification: You will maintain in-depth knowledge and current certification in backup technologies such as Dell/EMC Data Protection Suite, Veritas, Netbackup, BackupExec, IBM Spectrum Protect, Rubrik, or other enterprise backup solutions.

The Enterprise Backup Engineer I (EBE I) is a key role within our organization, offering essential technical skills and expertise in the areas of Enterprise Data Protection, which includes Data Storage, Data Backup, System Backup, Data Security, System/Data Backup Recovery, and Disaster Recovery.

In this position, you will develop strategies and plans for the full lifecycle management of server systems backups and system data. Your responsibilities include designing, installing, maintaining, and monitoring critical backup systems, ensuring compliance with data retention policies, and managing backup solutions based on business requirements. You will also have knowledge of emerging backup and data protection strategies and technologies, such as IT business continuity, replication, encryption, de-duplication, and more.

Daily activities will involve configurations, agent deployments, recovery tasks, and performance tuning, in addition to working closely within a cross-functional team and providing support and training to other technical staff.
