You will play a critical role in setting expectations for the protection of critical agency information assets, which include applications, databases, systems, equipment, and data. This responsibility also involves evaluating security measures to ensure adequate protection against cybersecurity attacks or other misuse or loss. You will collaborate with agency and IT leadership, serving as a key member of the Chief Technology Innovation Officer’s leadership team, and participate in organizational and work structure discussions for the Technology Innovation Administration.

Some of what you will do :

  • Ensure the IT Security program documentation is in alignment with all state and federal rules and regulations and best practices.
  • Ensure the IT Security Disaster Recovery program documentation is in alignment with all state and federal rules and regulations and best practices.
  • Develop and implement the IT Security program and IT Security Disaster Recovery program policies, standards, procedures, and practices.
  • Ensure regular and routine monitoring, auditing, and compliance reviews are scheduled, conducted, and documented to safeguard agency data, information, and systems.
  • Ensure that DSHS has adequate and tested disaster recovery plans for systems containing HIPAA information and mission-critical DSHS systems and technology functions in support of the agency business continuity plans.
  • Ensure continuous process improvement for the management and support of the agency IT Security program policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Identify and report key performance metrics to demonstrate the effectiveness of the IT Security program.
  • Consult and in some cases direct all contracts associated with the IT Security program and IT Security Disaster Recovery program.
  • Coordinate agency IT Security audits and corrective action plans, including internal audits, state audits, federal audits, and security testing.
  • Establish and administer vulnerability assessment and monitoring activities.

We’re looking for someone who understands that, in today’s budget environment, this will be challenging, but full of opportunities to build, rebuild, and strengthen our organization, programs, and processes to better serve Washington residents and our dedicated staff. To succeed, you should have experience and vision for transitioning to a zero-trust architecture, implementing threat detection, alerts, and monitoring, and a passion for growing an IT Security team of experts in these areas.

The ideal applicant will have a drive and determination to help transform our organization by ensuring our technology is modern, secure, and mature. That drive and determination will combine with a commitment to see changes through and support DSHS into the future.
