The Department of Innovation and Technology is seeking a Data Scientist to join the Citywide Analytics Team. This is a grant-funded position through the SMART Grant, expected to end by February 14th, 2026.
The Data Scientist will work in a collaborative environment to develop and execute analytics projects that improve city services. Responsibilities include designing analytic solutions, understanding data sources, proposing methodologies, developing scalable products, generating insights, collaborating across departments, maintaining documentation, managing data and visualizations, and staying updated on AI and machine learning advancements.
Minimum qualifications include at least four years of experience in data science projects, proficiency in statistical analysis and visualization tools (Python, R, PowerBI), a strong statistics background, experience with machine learning, and familiarity with databases. A relevant degree is preferred, with a master's degree being advantageous. Public sector experience is a plus.
Boston residency is required. The position is part-time, unionized, and classified as Mid-Senior level in Engineering and IT, within Government Administration.
Salary ranges from $85,000 to $120,000 annually, with recent similar roles posting at various salaries in Boston and nearby areas.
